Karmacha Siddhant (Theory of Karma), a book by Mr. Heerabhai Thakkar was gifted to me as an induction gift when I joined Geolife Group. This gesture was really pleasing for me. Learning from the book is truly enlightening.

This book throws light on Karmayog, a concept given in Bhagwadgita.

Karmayog, Bhaktiyog, and Dnyanyog are three ways of leading life.

Karmayog is based on the “yoga of action”. To a karma yogi, a right action is a form of prayer.

Dnyanyog emphasizes the “path of knowledge”.

Bhakti-yoga is a spiritual path or spiritual practice within Hinduism focused on loving devotion towards any personal deity.

In our day to day life, we have to struggle and complete the needs through physical actions. Performing the right actions is a form of prayer and is the base of Karmayog.

Our every action will have a combination of Trio — Karmayog, Bhaktiyog & Dnyanyog. The combination will result in prosperity in every action.

The author gives an example of a housewife who is performing her Karmayog with a combination of the other two. For a housewife cooking food daily is her duty. This is her Karmayog.

While cooking she has emotions for the ones who will be eating it — her husband, her children, guests, etc. She always cleans the raw veggies, rice, sprouts, and everything, to make sure that whatever she is cooking must be tasty & healthy. Her every action shows her devotion to cooking, for her family. This devotional behavior in her duty can be called Bhakti yoga.

But only devotion would not give better results. To make the food perfect, she must know the recipes, every detail as to how much water to be used, what should be quantity of salt, how to handle a stove, how to store material, and much more. This knowledge is termed as Dnyanyog.

If we talk in a corporate language also, every management expects an employee should work with the trio in mind, Karmayog, Bhaktiyog & Dnyanyog.

Karmayog means one should perform his / her task sincerely. Whenever one is in office, he should not waste time on non-productive things but should give 100% and perform well. An accountant in a company should prepare bills on time, keep the balance up to date, enter the data in software as required, etc. This is his Karmayog. Performing the right actions as expected.

With Bhaktiyog, one should keep his / her environment clean, should take responsibility for the whole task. He/she should show devotion for his / her work and should keep all documents in their place and should follow all the systems and update wherever required. When the accountant needs to prepare a file, it should be neat, clean, and without any mistakes. He should have the emotions that the company should not go in the loss and should gain more profits. One should follow the quote — Work is Worship. When we have devotional feelings, we seek perfection in that activity and every small detail is taken care of.

Dnyanyog refers to the knowledge in his / her field. One may perform the right actions with devotions, but if he/she doesn’t have knowledge of it, the result may get messed up. The accountant must know the basics of Tally, debits, credits, new reforms, and everything related to the accounting and the company.

So, if you are being a Karmayogi, still you have to understand and implement Dnyanyog & Bhaktiyog concerning your actions. The combination of the three will result in prosperity.

Above is not only the expectations of management but also the expectation of the universe if you want to achieve success. Every action should include the approach of Karmayog, Bhaktiyog & Dnanyog.

P.S. — The concept of Karmayog, Bhaktiyog & Dnanyog has many things to explain in detail. These are very well explained in Bhagwadgeeta and books on it. I have tried my best to summarize one example.
