Big is Myth, Beyond is Reality

A few days ago I shared this quote and received many question marks in reply. So I just wished to elaborate a little.

Everyone has a dream to do something big. When we ask them what exactly is that big, either they can’t answer or we feel that’s still not THAT BIG. If you speak about RS 1 CR with Ambanis, it’s not BIG for them but speaking about RS 10 Lacs with your father might be a very BIG thing. You might have got the difference but I wish to convey the similarity in two incidents.

Ambani’s feeling for 1000 CR and your father’s feeling for 10 Lakhs might be the same. Because they don’t have that much bank balance right now. To manage that they need to ask for help. They need to go beyond their bank balance limitations. For them, that thing is big. It does not mean that 1000CR or 10 Lakhs is big. But going beyond your bank balance is the big thing.

Sachin scores a century is not a big thing. But Harbhajan scoring 30 runs in crucial time makes him the hero of the match. I wake up at 9 am daily. And when for something to happen, if I wake up at 4 am it's really a big thing for me. But if someone asks the same to my grandmother, it could never be a big thing. Sleeping till 9 am might be a big thing for her.

This way we need to go beyond everything every day to make our thing big.

So what I wish to share concerning the business is, no company is big. Don’t aim to make a business big. Try to go beyond your limits and that will be big. If you have a family business you should grow that. If you have Rs. 10/- then try to make it 15 and then 20 then 40 and so on. That way you will also get the feel of doing something big and in the end, it will be the big you are now dreaming of. At every step, you should go one step beyond, and after a period of time, you’ll realize that you have come a long way from where you were.
